Can you believe it’s almost that time of year again?

Holiday season this year is sure to be unlike any other year we have experienced, but one thing for certain is that our mischievous little elves are conjuring up a cunning plan for their big return to our homes as we speak!

In previous years, the Elf on the Shelf would magically appear without warning and without an invitation. But in today’s current climate, it’s pretty standard to ask permission before entering into someone’s home - this applies to our elves too! But how exactly will your Elf know that you have granted permission?

By Introducing an Official Fairy Bank Elf Door!

An Elf Door is similar to a Fairy Door in that it is an access point for your mythical friends, a portal if you will. The major difference is that the Elf Door is a portal to the North Pole and works only for your Christmas Elf. This really helps to clarify for our Elf friends that they’re welcome in our homes this year! An added bonus, the Elf Door is a great explanation as to how your Elf got there or where they came from…for all those inquisitive little minds…it’s a WIN WIN!

This particular Fairy Bank Elf Door is not only beautifully made, but is also compact and will fit in well in any sized space. Much like the Fairy Door, the Elf Door works perfectly on a bookshelf, on a nightstand, on a desk, or on top of a skirting board beside the Christmas Tree. An Elf Door is the perfect way to help your Christmas Elf grace you with their presents (pun clearly intended).

How to prepare for the arrival of your Elf

Elf on the Shelf idea #1: Request that they wear a mask

Although the Elf will know they have permission to enter your home, some might still want to request that they wear a mask as safety is on the forefront of everyone’s mind. If you’re looking for a mask for your Elf, check out these great options here on Etsy. Simply ask your kiddo to leave a note beside the Elf Door requesting that they wash their hands and wear a mask before they enter so they know they must take the correct precautions.

Elf on the Shelf idea #2: Leave a snack out

Travelling all the way from the North Pole will also mean your Elf will be extremely tired and hungry. Luckily, elves enjoy many of the same foods that humans eat, such as cookies, jelly beans, marshmallows and popcorn. Leave a little plate of snacks beside the door and you will be sure to make your little friend very happy – after all, nobody likes a hangry Elf!

Elf on the Shelf idea #3: Elf antics, Bingo style

Having a calendar mapped out for the antics you *think* your Elf might get up to is also fun way to prepare for their arrival. This is something that the kiddos can actually get involved in too. You can jot down some ideas on a blank calendar, and treat it as an “Elf on the Shelf” version of Bingo. If you have successfully predicted your Elf’s mischievous antics, cross it off the calendar and give yourself and your little one a treat. Alternatively, there are pre-written printable calendars available online such as this one by Stock Piling Moms. You can still apply the idea of “Elf on the Shelf” bingo to the printable, it just means someone else has predicted the carnage for you.
